Green roof and vegetated facade Aesthetics and ecology within our urban environment
The principle of the green roof (also: plant roof or vegetated roof) has existed since prehistoric times. It consists of covering using a substrate and plants, a flat roof or low slope (up to 35 °).
Many experiments conducted in Europe have shown that for aesthetic purposes or durability, as in the context of restoration or protection of biodiversity and environment in urban areas, development of a "eco-roof" proved to be interesting.
Sphagnum moss from Chile is ideal and cost effective in achieving all types of roofs.
Originally, the purpose of green roofs and vegetated facades was for insulation against the cold in the Nordic countries and against heat in the southern countries. But today, green roofs and vegetated facades also play an aesthetic role for ecological camouflaging of unsightly urban buildings.
